When a co-owner should join the room
Shared custody works until one person books an audit alone and discovers the map was never mutual.
Couples and business partners often split device possession geographically. That strength becomes a liability when only one person attends a review and leaves with a mental model the other never approved.
Signals you need both people present
- Either party can authorize spends above a quiet household threshold
- Passphrases were chosen together but documented separately
- Inheritance instructions mention both names
- Prior arguments about “who holds the travel unit”
How we run joint sessions
Both parties sign the room rules. We refuse to mediate coercion. If one person demands to see the other’s sealed backup mid-session, we pause. The goal is a shared map of roles, not a live recovery ceremony.
If only one can attend
We can still audit a single device the attendee physically controls, and we will mark the memo as partial. Expect us to recommend a follow-up once the co-owner is available rather than pretend the map is complete.
